Division History
Formed at the Sonkovo station in the Kalinin region from 04/24/1942 to 07/12/1942 according to the Directive of the General Staff of the Civil Aviation Administration No. org / 2/783669 of 04/16/1942 by transforming the 2nd Guards Rifle Brigade .
In the army during the Great Patriotic War - from July 14, 1942 to May 11, 1945.

In August 1942, she participated in battles to seize bridgeheads on the Don River north of the city of Korotoyak , then in the Ostrogozh-Rossoshansk , Voronezh-Kastornenskaya , Kharkov offensive and defensive , Donbass , and Nizhnedneprovsk operations. On the night of September 26, 1943, the 78th Guards Rifle Regiment in the vicinity of the village of Voiskovoye crossed the Dnieper , captured and held the bridgehead, ensuring the crossing of the 6th Army's main forces to the right bank.
In 1944-1945 the division participated in the Kirovograd , Korsun-Shevchenkovskaya , Uman-Botoshansk , Iasi-Kishinev , Budapest , Bratislava-Brnovsk , Prague offensive operations. She took part in the liberation of the cities of Kharkov , Valka , Lozovaya , Sinelnikovo , Balta , Kotovsk , the capture of the cities of Budapest , Bratislava .
After the war, it was reorganized into a motorized rifle division. It was stationed in the city of Lubny ( Kiev Military District ).
In December 1964, the 25th Guards Motor Rifle Division was named after the legendary civil war hero V. I. Chapaev, and thus the division succeeded the traditions of both the 25th Guards Rifle Division and the one-dimensional 25th Chapaev Rifle Division , who died in the besieged Sevastopol and disbanded at the end of July 1942 (the banners of the units recessed in the Black Sea ).
In the post-war years, the 25th Guards Motor Rifle Division was one of two registered divisions of the Soviet Army , named after the commanders (along with Panfilov — the 8th Guards Rifle Division named after I.V. Panfilov ), was disbanded in the late 1990s.
