Armored battery in the system of the Sevastopol fortified area (destroyed, 1942)
Armored battery - a long-term defensive structure, armed with tower artillery. They were used from the end of the 19th century to the end of the 20th century [1] as an element of fortifications or coastal defense .
In the USSR, armored turret batteries, in particular, were part of the Sevastopol fortified area system [2] and the coastal defense system of Vladivostok [3] .
During the Cold War, Öja, located in the Gulf of Bothnia , was built a cannon complex to protect against a possible Soviet invasion. The complex consisted of a multi-storey underground bunker hidden in granite rocks, 38 tower guns with a caliber of 120 mm. with a firing range of up to 27 km., and was designed for a nuclear strike of up to 100 kilotons [1] .
