Life
Marie Louise was the daughter of Philip I , Duke of Parma and his wife Princess Louise Elizabeth of France . She was dubbed the name Louise Maria Theresa, but was better known as Maria Louise. She was the granddaughter of Philip V of Spain and Louis XV of France .
Francisco Goya often painted her portraits. Contemporaries often described the queen as a vicious and rude woman who completely dominated the king, the weak and indecisive Charles IV . Maria Louise, Godoy and the renounced king spent the rest of their days outside Spain. She and her husband both died in Rome in 1819 , where they were sheltered by Pope Pius VII . Her remains and the remains of her husband, were transferred to Spain, and buried in the royal tomb of the Spanish kings of Escorial .
According to some reports, several of her children were not born to her husband, who was her cousin by father (the father of Maria Louise and the father of Charles IV were siblings to each other). The Infant Don Francisco (Duke of Cadiz) is reported to have been especially like Godoy. Her children were:
