Rockingham Motor Speedway - race track near Rockingham and Corby , Northamptonshire , England .
The track was opened on May 26, 2001 in the presence of the Queen . The stands accommodate 62 thousand spectators. The track includes two configurations - an oval track with a length of 2380 m (1.47 miles) and a road track with a length of 3600 m.
The track enjoys a not very good reputation - insufficient accounting of groundwater leads to the fact that after rain the track remains wet for a long time, flooded by groundwater, because of which the first Champcar race was delayed . In addition, the track is known for its abrasive asphalt .
Configurations
The track is an oval or, more precisely, an irregular quadrangle with low banking (3.5-7.9 °). It was used by the CART championship in 2001 and 2002 for the Rockingham 500 race, won by Gilles de Ferrand and Dario Franchitti, respectively. Tony Kanaan in 2001 set a lap record of 24.719 s at a speed of 346.6 km / h. The track track is also used for racing sports pickups .
