On the slopes of Mount Mijur, the right tributaries of the Danube , Lom and Timok, originate (one of the sources of the Timka is the Trgovishki-Timok River ).
In the western part of the mountain is the Bulgarian reserve Chuprene . The area was declared a nature reserve in 1973. The reserve was created primarily for the protection of coniferous forests. The original rich vegetation and fauna has been preserved here. In the reserve there is a large variety of birds, as it is located at the intersection of migration routes.
