The 702nd Hall of the Louvre (until 2018 - the 75th Hall of the Denon Gallery) ( French: Dar ) is dedicated to French painting of the period of Classicism . Large-format canvases are exhibited here. Forty paintings are stored in the hall, including: fourteen works of David , seven works of Ingres , three paintings by Girode-Trizon , Guerin and Prudon , two paintings by Gerard and Groot , and one work by Brock , Drouet , Lefebvre , Peyron , Reno and Vigee Lebrun .
The hall is located on the ground floor of the Denon wing, named after the first director of the Louvre Museum - Baron Dominic Vivan-Denon [1] . The hall was created in 1863 and decorated by the painter Alexander Dominique Denuel ( fr. Alexandre Dominique Denuelle ) in red and yellow colors, which are considered French imperial colors.
French sources indicate [2] that the 702nd hall is dedicated to neoclassicism , since in France neoclassicism refers to the style of the second half of the 18th century , the style of Louis XVI , which is traditionally called classicism in Russia (period 1762 - 1840 ). In Russia, neoclassicism is called a retrospective style of the beginning of the 20th century .
