About the album

The disc shows a greater acceptance of progressive rock standards Rush. On the disc there are long compositions, compositions divided into parts, high-speed passages. The album is considered noticeable due to the inclusion of the first epic composition of the group, “The Fountain Of Lamneth”, which lasts about 20 minutes and takes up the entire second side of the original vinyl. Designed to be a breakthrough for the group, the album was sold worse than the previous one, but despite this, it rose higher in the American charts. He was granted gold status in 1993 .

Initially, the album cover was supposed to be silver as steel (steel), but due to an error made during printing, it became a copper color.

Song Information

Bastille Day

The influence of Led Zeppelin is still noticeable on this disc, especially clearly in the song “Bastille Day” (it tells about the capture of the Bastille ), however, it can be traced on all three short songs of the album. “Bastille Day” reappears on the “ R30: 30th Anniversary World Tour ” concert CD and DVD as part of the “R30 Overture” composition.

I Think I'm Going Bald

The song “I Think I'm Going Bald” was written for Canadian rocker Kim Mitchell, who was the frontman for Max Webster . The book “Contents Under Pressure” also mentions that “I Think I'm Going Bald” was a tribute to the Kiss song “ Going Blind ”.

Lakeside Park

May 24, mentioned in the song “Lakeside Park”, is Victoria Day, a Canadian holiday. Lakeside Park is a park in the town of Port Dalhousie, Ontario , where Neil Peart , the author of the text, grew up.

The Necromancer

Necromancer (necromancer) - a person practicing necromancy , a kind of fortune telling , which is to summon the spirits of the dead in order to find out the future . The song shows a strong influence of " The Lord of the Rings ." Under the "three travelers" refers to Frodo , Sam and Gollum , under the Necromancer - Sauron . The song differs from the story in the book in that in part III the character named By-Tor returns from Fly by Night , this time as a hero, not a villain. "Return of the Prince" was released separately in some countries.

On the inner tab under the words of the song “The Necromancer” there was a phrase in Latin : “Terminat hora diem; terminat auctor opus. It translates roughly as: “The hour ends the day; The author finishes his work. "

The Fountain of Lamneth

The album’s last song precedes epics such as “ 2112 ” and “ Cygnus X-1 .” It is only 34 seconds shorter than the “2112”. This is a complete story about a man looking for the "fountain of Lamneth" and chronicles his journey. This is a metaphor, expressing the entry of man into the world and the search for meaning. This song did not receive such fame and respect as “2112”, most likely due to low album sales.
