Daisuke was born in Kurashiki and, being the only child in the family involved in sports, for a long time went to success in figure skating . Takahashi wanted to become an architect , but his poor knowledge of the exact sciences prevented him from realizing this dream. Outside of the competition, the Japanese also worked as a reporter and commentator on the Fuji channel [6] and took part in various shows, in particular, one of them combined figure skating with the traditional Japanese kabuki theater [7] .

Takahashi represented Japan at the three Winter Olympics : in 2006 , 2010 and 2014 . His bronze medal at the 2010 Olympics was the first for Japan in men's individual skating. Daisuke is also the first Japanese to win the world title [8] and win the Grand Prix finals [9] . Daisuke Takahashi was born March 16, 1986 in the city of Kurashiki [16] . He has three older brothers, but not one of them is involved in sports [4] . Daisuke from childhood was distinguished by hard work, which helped to achieve the goals. According to Japanese media, at the time when Daisuke's father was looking for work on construction sites away from home, Takahashi's mother was forced to get a second job, namely, in a company for the production of ready-made breakfasts [17] .

Takahashi began skating since 1994, he was then eight years old [16] . An ice rink was built near his house, and Daisuke and his mother went to look at the hockey players and figure skaters . His mother wanted to record him in the hockey section, but Daisuke liked figure skating more, and he chose him [18] . Before the first sports achievements, his mother sewed costumes for Daisuke, and the Japanese himself had one and only pair of skates [17] .

The first success for Daisuke was a bronze medal at the Japan Championship among juniors in 2000 [19] . In the 2002/2003 season, Takahashi failed to win prizes in the competitions, while at the same time taking part in the Grand Prix tournament for the first time. In the 2003/2004 season, Takahashi participated in two stages of the Grand Prix, ranking seventh in Canada [24] and fifth in France [25] . 2004/2005 Season

The pre-Olympic season was very unstable for Takahashi. He became only the eleventh at the Grand Prix stage in France, although he occupied third place after the short program, but fell four times in the free program, did not complete a single cascade , two jumps turned out to be single, and three - double [31] . In the 2006/2007 season, Takahashi took part in two stages of the Grand Prix. The first for the Japanese was the Canadian stage , where he won silver. At the same time, Takahashi was in the lead after a short program, but in the end he lost a little more than one point to Swiss Stefan Lambiel, who occupied only seventh place [57] . Takahashi was only third at the Japan Championship in Nagano [93] . Nevertheless, Daisuke participated in the championship of the four continents in Taipei , which he won, surpassing his closest competitor, compatriot Yuzuru Hanyu , by 15.99 points [94] . His next competition was the World Cup , which was originally to be held in Tokyo [95] , but in connection with the earthquake was moved to Moscow [96] and was held in April 2011. It is worth noting that it was at this tournament for the first time at the international level that another difficult quadruple jump was performed - Lutz , who submitted in the short program to the American Brandon Mroz , but in the end he lost almost 75 points to Takahashi and took the last place [104] [105] .

Takahashi, taking third and first places at the stages of the Grand Prix, received the right to participate in the finals , which took place in December in Canadian Quebec . In 2012, at the World Championships in Nice, Takahashi took third place after a short program, receiving 85.72 points from judges [110] . At the championship of the four continents in Osaka, Daisuke took fourth place after a short program, but the arbitrary one turned out to be extremely unsuccessful: the skater scored only 140 points, falling and not jumping up [128] , and took the final seventh place. At the same time, the Japanese could not show the same high results as at the national championship in December, and the Canadian Kevin Reynolds won the gold medal of this tournament with a total of only 250 points [129] .

After failing at the Osaka tournament, Takahashi decided to change his short program. Having only one month left before the world championship, he created a new production for Beethoven's “ Moonlight Sonata ”. According to Daisuke, he was not able to achieve the original execution of the program, in particular, he was not able to execute the planned movements, since he had insufficient practice [130] . The next start for Takahashi was the world championship in Canadian London . As a result, Takahashi took sixth place, losing 10 points to bronze medalist Spaniard Javier Fernandez [133] .

Despite the unsuccessful main starts, Takahashi managed to end the season with a victory: at the team world championship, he again became the first in the individual standings, being stronger at that time already three-time world champion Patrick Chan . At the same time, Chan was in the lead after a short program, but in the second form he performed unsuccessfully, losing 9 points in total to Daisuke [134] . Despite the victory of the Japanese, his team did not manage to win team gold: there were no figure-skaters in the composition, but even without a whole look they managed to win bronze medals [135] .

For Takahashi, the season began at the Japan Open , which took place on October 5, 2013. At this competition, Daisuke first performed his free program to the music of the Beatles . However, with two falls and only a single axel, the skater scored a total of 149.12 points and took fourth place [136] . Nevertheless, the Japanese team won the team first place in the tournament [137] .

Daisuke continued the competition at the stages of the Grand Prix . In the USA, in the short program, mistakes were made in all jumping elements: the quadruple sheepskin coat was under-twisted, in the cascade instead of the triple sheepskin coat it was only doubled, and for performance with the triple ax error the judges took the point (GOE) [138] . Errors were also not avoided in the free program, and Takahashi was fourth with a score of 159.12 points [139] . This did not allow to catch up with the skaters ahead of Takahashi in the short program, and in the end he took fourth place [140] .

The next stage was the home NHK Trophy , at which Daisuke received the highest 95.55 points for the performance of the short program. This result was the second in history at that time, second only to Patrick Chan's hire at the 2013 World Cup, when the Canadian received 98.37 points for performing the program to the music of Rachmaninov [141] . In the free program, Takahashi also became the first, receiving 172.76 points [142] . Thus, taking first place in the tournament, Takahashi received the right to participate in the Grand Prix finals [143] , but withdrew from it due to a leg injury [144] .

Daisuke Takahashi was only fifth in the Japanese Championship [145] , but received the right to participate in the third Olympic Games in Sochi . He participated only in personal competitions. On February 13, he performed a short program, performed all the elements except for the four-piece sheepskin coat, which was not fully twisted for a whole revolution, landing on two legs, taking fourth place with a score of 86.40 points [146] , and the next day, an arbitrary one. There he suffered the same mistake on the fourth sheepskin coat, and, in addition, the triple axel was under-twisted, and for the entire program only one cascade was executed [147] . In total, Takahashi scored 250.67 points and took sixth place [16] . Although the Japanese did not manage to win the medal, only he received a warm greeting from the fans who threw soft toys onto the ice. According to the media, because of the unsuccessful skaters' rentals, including the medalists, as well as the withdrawal due to an injury the day before the Russian Evgeni Plushenko , the audience on the day of the free program, which coincided with Valentine's Day , was silent [148] .

Takahashi decided to end his career on October 14, 2014 [149] [150] .

Life outside the ice rink after the 2014 Olympics

After finishing his career in 2014, Takahashi moved to Long Island , where he lived in a relaxed atmosphere and studied English at the local university [5] . In 2016, he began working on Fuji as a commentator and reporter [6] . In 2017, Takahashi took part in a show that combined traditional Japanese kabuki theater and figure skating. In addition to Daisuke, Shizuka Arakawa , Akiko Suzuki , Nobunari Oda and others took part in it. The show was staged by the famous Kabuki actor , who also became one of the participants [7] [151] .

Такахаси во время обучения во втором классе средней школы начал работать с Утако Нагамицу — бывшей японской фигуристкой, закончившей карьеру в 1972 году [162] . Среди хореографов, ставивших первые программы для Такахаси, были российские специалисты — Татьяна Тарасова [163] и Николай Морозов , который являлся также тренером Такахаси, одновременно с Нагамицу. При этом Такахаси некоторое время даже был вынужден жить у Морозова, но по мере достижения результатов появлялись спонсоры, предлагавшие японцу контракты [78] . Однако японец из-за финансовых разногласий с Николаем Морозовым был вынужден сменить тренера в 2008 году [76] [78] .

К Олимпиаде в Ванкувере фигурист готовился под руководством Утако Нагамицу. Фигурист отмечал, что благодаря её поддержке он сумел преодолеть мучительное восстановление от полученной в 2008 году травмы, хотя и не задумывался о том, чтобы завершить из-за этого карьеру. Также Утако настояла на изменении техники прыжков, в частности изучении четверного, так как считала, что без этого нет смысла тренироваться [1] .

Хореографами Такахаси впоследствии стали Кэндзи Миямото и Паскуале Камерленго [164] . В период, когда Такахаси работал без участия Николая Морозова, он также сотрудничал с Стефаном Ламбьелем и Ше-Линн Бурн , которые помогали ему ставить программы [168] . В частности, произвольную программу сезона 2012/2013 под музыку из оперы «Паяцы», с которой фигурист выиграл финал Гран-при в Сочи , показав один из лучших результатов в карьере, ставила Ше-Линн Бурн [121] . Однако Такахаси планировал вместе с Ламбьелем создать программу « Пер Гюнт », но при объявлении постановок летом 2010 года стало ясно, что от этой идеи было решено отказаться [169] .

Дайсукэ Такахаси известен в мире фигурного катания артистичным [13] исполнением программ и элементов, в частности дорожек шагов [170] , также специалисты отмечают, что от его катания идёт огромная энергетика [14] . После Олимпиады-2010 Такахаси работал над своими программами со Стефаном Ламбьелем , который отмечал, что Дайсукэ очень мотивирован, а фигуристы, которые так же страстно занимаются своим делом, — это редкость в современном фигурном катании [15] . Алексей Мишин называет Такахаси артистом, ставшим лицом японского фигурного катания, отмечая при этом, что большой вклад в развитие его как фигуриста внесли российские специалисты [13] .

До 2008 года Такахаси был очень силён в плане совмещения техники и артистизма, что помогало ему выигрывать медали на соревнованиях. Японец отмечал, что до травмы, из-за которой он был вынужден пропустить сезон 2008/2009, он включал в свои программы даже два четверных прыжка [88] . Тем не менее он всегда пытался исполнить четверной прыжок в произвольной программе в отличие от многих других. Из-за этого после Олимпиады-2010 эксперты и зрители негодовали, что четверные прыжки обесценились, при этом поощряли смелый шаг Такахаси и россиянина Евгения Плющенко включать в свои программы четверные прыжки. Так, бывший канадский фигурист Элвис Стойко сказал, что «судьи убили фигурное катание» в день, когда были разыграны медали в мужском одиночном катании на Олимпиаде, а Такахаси хотя бы за смелость заслуживает бо́льших оценок, чем чемпион Эван Лайсачек , не пытавшийся исполнить ни одного четверного [171] . Однако уже через месяц после окончания Олимпиады в Ванкувере Такахаси на чемпионате мира в Турине исполнил сложнейший прыжковый элемент — четверной флип (он оказался недокручен [87] ), после чего фигуристы стали задумываться о включении в свои программы ещё более сложных прыжков, например, четверного лутца [88] [89] .
