It was formed on May 21, 1957 and named in honor of the outstanding Russian teacher KD Ushinsky (1824–1870). The name is connected with the fact that Lipetsk Pedagogical Institute was located on this street in the house number 8 from August 1955 .
Before the October Revolution , a settlement of Belgian and Russian specialists working at the Sokolsky Metallurgical Plant was located in this area. The village was divided into three parts as it climbed up the street - Lower, Middle and Upper colonies and was built up with mansions. These names persisted for some time after the revolution.
Ushinsky Street is central in the village, built up with apartment buildings of various heights. At the end of the street in the 1970s, the Northern microdistrict was erected. In addition to residential buildings on Ushinsky Street there are a large number of institutions of culture, health care, sports, trade, consumer services, and education.
