U-189 - German submarine type IXC / 40 , from the Second World War . The order for the construction of the submarine was given on November 4, 1940 . The boat was laid at the shipyard of the AG Weser shipbuilding company in Bremen on September 12, 1941 under building number 1035, launched on May 1, 1942, and on August 15, 1942, under the command of Corvette Captain Helmut Kurrer, it entered the training 4th flotilla . April 1, 1943 became part of the 2nd Flotilla . The boat made one military campaign, success was not achieved. On April 23, 1943, the boat was sunk east of Cape Farvel , Greenland , in the area with coordinates depth charges from a British Liberator- type aircraft. All 54 crew members died.
