In 1983-1987 and in 1988-1991. was the prime minister of Iceland. Evaluation of his work in this post is ambiguous. Its dismantling is associated with the name of his successor as Prime Minister David Oddsson . On the other hand, his activities aimed at adapting the Icelandic economy to the complex socio-economic processes of the late 1980s and early 1990s are positively assessed.
