From left to right: β-lactam, γ-lactam, δ-lactam
Lactam is a cyclic amide . The number of atoms in the cycle can be indicated by prefixes, for example β-lactam (4-membered), γ-lactam (5-membered), δ-lactam (6-membered). Also, many lactams have historically established trivial names, for example, γ-lactam - pyrrolidone, ε-lactam - caprolactam .
