Biography
In 1934 he graduated from the University of Reykjavik and continued his legal education in Denmark, Germany and Britain. In 1935-1940 practiced law in Reykjavik.
In 1934 he was elected to alting from the Independence Party (PN) , becoming his youngest deputy in history. Since 1948 , member of the Executive Committee of the PN, since 1978 - Deputy Chairman of the PN.
In 1949 - 1965 and 1971 - 1983 - deputy of the Reykjavik city council, in 1947 - 1959 . - Mayor of Reykjavik .
in 1959 - 1965 - Minister of Finance.
In 1965 - 1969 - Ambassador of Iceland in Denmark .
In 1968 , he put forward his candidacy in the presidential election, but lost to Kristjan Eldyaurn . In 1968 - 1976 - Member of the Supreme Court.
In 1974 - 1978 - Minister of Industry and Social Well-being in the government of Geir Hadlgrimsson .
In 1980 , as vice-chairman of the Independence Party, together with several other MP deputies, he formed a coalition government with the Progressive Party and the left-socialist People’s Alliance , replacing the leader of the minority government of the Social Democrat as Prime Minister Benedict Grundahl . Toroddsen became the oldest Prime Minister in the history of Iceland.
In 1983 , he did not stand for parliament and died shortly after the parliamentary elections.

Parents: Sigurdur Toroddsen ( Sigurður Thoroddsen , 1863-1955) and Maria Kristin Toroddsen ( María Kristín Thoroddsen , 1880-1964) [1] .
He was the son-in-law of the president of the country in 1952 - 1968 . Ausgeir Ausgeirsson .
