Ruth Westheimer was born into a Jewish family. In 1939 , after her father was arrested by the Nazis, her mother managed to transport the girl to Switzerland , where Ruth spent all the years of World War II ; her parents died during the Holocaust . Having learned about this in 1945 , Ruth Siegel decided to go to Palestine , where she joined the militant organization Hagan , gained sniper skills and was seriously injured by a bomb during the Arab-Israeli war of 1948-1949 .
Since 1950 , she studied psychology at the Paris Sorbonne , then taught there. In 1956, she emigrated to the United States , where she received a master's degree in sociology and a doctorate in humanities from Teachers College, Columbia University . She later completes her work on the basics of sexology at the Presbyterian Hospital in New York City .
Her groundbreaking show, Sexual Conversations, went on the radio in the 1980s after 12 a.m. and lasted only 20 minutes. But as the show gained popularity, the duration of the broadcast was increased to one and a half hours, and broadcasts began to be broadcast throughout the United States . The success was facilitated by the transmission style itself. He was emphasized by polite, frank and at the same time subtle humor was present, helping the listeners to relax a little.
Dr. Ruth has written many books on sexology , including the famous Dr. Ruth's Encyclopedia of Sex and Sex For Dummies . She also works as a lecturer and professor at New York University and conducts sexuality education seminars at Yale University . Ruth currently hosts nationwide radio and television shows. Ruth Westheimer speaks Hebrew , English, German and French.
She was married to Manfred Westheimer until he passed away in 1997 .
