Benallo began his career in his native Grasshopper from Zurich . In 2002, the Swiss moved to Stuttgart , but for 3 seasons he never played a single match for the main team, playing only for Stuttgart II .
In 2005, Benaglio moved to the Portuguese Nacional .
February 22, 2008 Benallo moved to Wolfsburg , signing a contract until 2012 [2] . In October 2009, the contract was extended for another year [3] . On April 28, 2012, Benaglio extended the contract with Wolfsburg until 2017 [4] , and in August became the team captain [5] . In August 2016, Diego extended the contract with the club until 2019 [6] .
On June 16, 2017, Benaglio moved to Monaco , signing a contract until 2020 [7] .
National
In 2006, Benaglio received a call to the 2006 World Cup , where he was listed as the third goalkeeper of the Swiss national team . At the European Championship 2008 , the 2010 World Cup and the 2014 World Cup, Benaglio was also involved in the national team, where he was already the main goalkeeper. In August 2014, he announced his retirement in the national team [8] .
