Data - registered information [1] ; the presentation of facts , concepts or instructions in a form acceptable for communication , interpretation , or processing by a person or using automatic means (ISO / IEC / IEEE 24765-2010) [2] .
In computer science and information technology :
- Data is a repetitive presentation of information in a formalized form suitable for transmission , communication or processing (ISO / IEC 2382: 2015) [3] .
- Data - forms of presentation of information with which information systems and their users deal (ISO / IEC 10746-2: 1996) [4] .
In metrology :
- Data - a set of values correlated with the main or derived measures and / or indicators (ISO / IEC 15939: 2007, ISO / IEC 25000: 2005) [5] .
Although information must take on some form of presentation (that is, turn into data) in order to be able to exchange it, information is primarily the interpretation (meaning) of such a presentation (ISO / IEC / IEEE 24765: 2010) [6] . Therefore, in the strict sense, information is different from data , although in an informal context these two terms are very often used as synonyms .
