Biography
Karl Langer was born on April 15, 1819 in Vienna. He studied in his native city and in Prague , mainly under Joseph Girtl , since 1844 - his assistant in the Department of Anatomy in Vienna. In 1853 - 1856, professor of zoology at the University of Pest , then professor of human anatomy in Vienna. In 1871 - 1874, Dean of the Medical Faculty of the University of Vienna .
Langer's scientific work deals with the anatomy of humans and vertebrates. In particular, he owns a textbook on anatomy ( German: Lehrbuch der systematischen und topographischen Anatomie ). To date, however, Langer is best known as a systematizer of the " Langer lines " - the lines of tension of human skin: this article was devoted to his article of 1861, "On the anatomy and physiology of the skin. On the degradability of the skin "( German: Zur Anatomie und Physiologie der Haut. Über die Spaltbarkeit der Cutis ).
Karl Langer died on December 8, 1887.
