Origin
Tati's mother is Claire van Hoof, of Dutch and Italian descent. Father - Georges-Emmanuel Tatishchev, son of the Russian general Dmitry Tatishchev (1824–1878) and the Frenchwoman Ros-Anatali Alenkan [1] . Although Tati himself in an interview called his grandfather “the Russian ambassador in Paris” and “count”, in reality Dmitry Alexandrovich came from the oldest (not count) branch of the Tatishchevs ( Rurikovich ) clan [2] [3] .
According to the memoirs of contemporaries, Tati’s grandfather, Dmitry Tatishchev, survived his child from a certain “circus show”. Georges Emmanuel was born on December 10, 1875. Tatishchev applied to the prefecture of Paris for recognition of him, according to French law, as the father of Georges-Emmanuel, without indicating his mother’s name, and received the corresponding act. On the initiative of Tatishchev and on the basis of this act, the boy was baptized in the Orthodox rank on December 26, 1877 in the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Paris, while the name George was indicated in the metric book [4] . Dmitry Tatishchev fell in love with his child and was going to write a petition to the king to recognize the boy as legitimate. There is evidence that such a letter was written. Dmitry Alexandrovich was seriously ill and soon died. Arriving in France, his brother, Alexander Alexandrovich , decided everything in his own way: the illegitimate would never fall into the Tatishchev family, he cut off. Friends of Dmitry Alexandrovich were convinced: the elder Tatishchev did this solely from mercantile considerations: so that the brother’s inheritance remained in the family. The circus mother had a very tight time: A. A. Tatishchev, Penza governor, paid her child money irregularly [5] .
Biography
At first he performed in a cabaret , made his film debut in 1934, but the first successful film was “Train the Left” (1936).
In 1939 he went to the front, however, there was no uniform on such a tall soldier (191 centimeter) and he was dressed as hell. During a patrol round, a soldier was found in an English cloak, Italian boots, a French uniform and footcloths from a Belgian blanket - Tati. He was mistaken for a German spy and nearly shot, which made gray hair.
After the war, Tati returned to the cabaret and already in 1947 removed the "School of Postmen", in 1949 - an expanded version of the film "Holiday" . Mr. Hulot , the naive simpleton transferred from a cabaret, brought the most popularity. He first appeared in the film “ Mr. Hulot 's Vacations ”, then in “ My Uncle ” ( Academy Award for “Best Foreign Film”).
In 2010, the full-length animated film "The Illusionist" , shot in an unrealized scenario by Tati, was released in which he himself was embodied in the image of the protagonist.
