Biography

Xavier Chengers was descended from the nobility of the Kiev province . He was brought up in a noble regiment, from where on July 27, 1837 he was released by an ensign in the Shlisselburg infantry regiment, where he arrived on August 26. On January 15, 1838, he was appointed battalion adjutant and on September 29 of the same year he was promoted to second lieutenant. From 1839 to 1841 he was a regimental adjutant in this regiment and on September 1, 1839 he was promoted to lieutenant, and on March 11, 1842 he was transferred as a second lieutenant to the Moscow Life Guards Regiment . December 6, 1844 promoted to lieutenant. April 11, 1848 promoted to the rank of captain, and on April 21 he was appointed company commander. In the ranks of the Life Guards of the Moscow Regiment participated in the march to the borders of the empire during the Hungarian campaign of 1849. On April 8, 1853, he was promoted to the rank of captain, and on March 2, 1853, "due to the absence of the lower ranks in the unit entrusted to him," he received the highest favor. On April 18, 1854, he was transferred to the 5th Reserve Battalion of the Life Guards Moscow Regiment. August 22, 1854 awarded the distinction of the immaculate service XV years. Produced as a colonel on August 30, 1854, he was transferred to a rectifying post of junior staff officer in the Life Guards Finnish Regiment and on November 19 of the same year he was appointed commander of the 5th battalion.

During the war of 1854-1856 he was part of the troops guarding the coast of the St. Petersburg and Vyborg provinces, for which he was awarded a bronze medal. For reviews, parades and teachings he was repeatedly honored with the Highest Grace, and on August 22, 1856 he was awarded the Order of St. Stanislav of the II degree, to which on August 30 of the following year the imperial crown was granted. In the years 1857-1858, continuing to command the battalion with distinction, he repeatedly received the highest favor for shows, parades and exercises, and on August 22, 1859 he was awarded the distinction of immaculate service for XX years.

March 2, 1860 Chengery was appointed commander of the Smolensk infantry regiment , and in that position during the Polish uprising was the military commander of the Kielce , Opatowo and Sandomierz counties. Rumors began to reach him that a detachment of rebels led by Davydovich was forming in the town of Sukhodnev. The cangers immediately reported the news to the commander of the troops, but did not receive any specific instructions from him. A few days have passed. In the town of Bodzentyn, the Poles attacked the 2nd rifle company at night; it was too late to ask for special instructions and permits, and the Chengers decided to act decisively, taking all the responsibility for the consequences that might happen to themselves. The city of Kielce was declared a state of siege, artillery was withdrawn from the park and placed in the town square, a strong detachment under the command of Colonel Sevastyanov was sent to Bodzentyn , another column under the command of Chengers himself moved to Sukhodnev. Both groups did not find the enemy and returned back to Kielce. Soon afterwards, an official notification was received from the commander of the Radom district that the forces of insurgents are concentrated in the mountains of the Holy Cross. The chengers were invited to go with the detachment to the town of Slup-Nova, where the battle took place, as a result of which the Russian troops took over the camp of the Poles and the traveling office of General Langevich . The chengers took part in the battle of Grokhovisk when the troops of the same Langevich, then the dictator, were defeated. the latter fled to Austria, where he was arrested. By the way, there were persistent rumors that not all the dictator's documents that fell into the hands of the Chengers were forwarded to them, they also said that the Chengers had been repeatedly summoned to St. Petersburg about this. Be that as it may, the Sovereign, after reading a report on the expulsion of Langevich from Russia , put the resolution “Colonel Chengers acted well done, and therefore produce him in the major general.” (March 22, 1863 ). Also, for the distinction he was awarded the Order of St. Vladimir IV degree with swords and bow on April 10, 1863 and on June 10 of the same year the Order of St. Vladimir III degree for the difference in affairs with the Polish rebels.

On June 23, 1863, the Chengers was appointed Assistant Chief of the 7th Infantry Division. On July 24, 1866, he was appointed commander of the 37th Infantry Division, and on August 10 of the same year he was awarded the Order of St. Stanislav of the I degree, and on April 20, 1869 he was awarded the Order of St. Anna of the I degree. March 28, 1871 promoted to lieutenant general with the approval of the post of chief of the division. On May 4, 1873, the highest permission to accept and carry the Prussian Order of the Red Eagle of the 1st degree granted by the German Emperor followed, and on August 30th Xavier Osipovich was granted the imperial crown to the Order of St. Anna of the 1st degree. On February 15, 1874, the Highest permission to accept and carry the Order of the Iron Crown of the 1st degree granted by the Austrian emperor followed, and on August 31, 1876 he was awarded the Order of St. Vladimir of the II degree and on 8 December of the same year he was granted the Danish Order of the Danube Concorde of the Cross of the I degree. March 21, 1879 was appointed a member of the Alexander Committee of the Wounded and on September 4 of the same year he was granted the Order of the White Eagle. He died on October 21, 1880 .
