Group History

Foundation of the group

May 15, 1995 in the St. Petersburg House of Pioneers "Bricks" gave their first concert. The band was then called "Bricks Are Heavy". The future hit "Bike" was also called accordingly - "Biker". Of today's members of "Brick" in the group was only a guitarist / vocalist - Vasya Vasin. Besides him were Stanislav Sytnik (bass) and Kirill Soloviev (drums).

In 1996, the group changed several times. In the end, "Bricks" was again three. These were Vasya Vasin, as well as Danil "Danny Boy" Smirnov and Eugene "UJ" Nazarov. The last two managed to participate in the Numb Paramour and Skyhog groups. The guys made their first recordings in April 1996 with Vasya’s money at the Tropillo studio.

Bricks are heavy

In May 1996, "Bricks" signed a contract with the record company "SHOK-Records". An album was recorded ( “Bricks are heavy” ), a clip for the aforementioned song “Bike” was shot. Soon they released another album, “Bricks are Heavy Live,” which they recorded at a concert at the Polygon club. At the “New Wave of St. Petersburg Rock” festival, “Kirpich” was called the opening of the year, and they were awarded the award for the best debut of the year among St. Petersburg club groups.

In the summer, "Bricks" were noted at such festivals as "Fill the sky with kindness", "Learn to swim! -2". In autumn in Vyborg together with Nautilus Pompilius performed at a concert dedicated to the year of broadcasting of the radio "Europe Plus" . In October, Shock Records released the album Bricks Are Heavy . The presentation was held in the same "Landfill" with the participation of the groups " Streets ", Jan Kuk and Tequilajazzz .

The album was a big success. "Bricks" continued to perform at festivals, gave concerts. At the next festival “Learn to swim!” (Already in 1997), the group presented their new song “Tortured bastards”.

In late 1998 - early 1999, a new era began in the history of the group - Daniel, Jay and Vasya began to rap, alternating between rap and rock concerts. In the spring of 1999, Gala Records released their second album, “Bricks” - “Death on the River” , which included the song “Tortured Gadies” already known by that time, as well as “I Spit”, on which the video was shot. In the summer of 1999, the Our Ghetto program appeared on the St. Petersburg Radio Record , which was mainly devoted to rap, although sometimes it was possible to hear heavy guitar music. At first, this program was made by all the “Bricks”, then only Daniel and Jay, and then Daniel alone remained. Now the program is no longer - it ceased to exist due to the active touring activities of the group.

In the fall of 1999, the Bricks group recorded their third studio album, “Capitalism 00” , at the Gala Records studio in Moscow, which is performed in a rap style. It was released in October 2000. The reason for the delay: Jay died on February 18, 2000 - drummer and MC “Kirpich”. March 30, 2000 in St. Petersburg club Spartak held a concert in memory of Zhenya Nazarov, in which, besides the Bricks, the groups Tequilajazzz , IFK , NOM , Cradle, Dzhan Ku took part. Svetlana Terentyeva (played before in the group Buttweizer) took the place behind the drum set at the concert. After a while, she was replaced by the current drummer “Kirpich” - Vadim “Nose” Latyshev. He also read rap at concerts with Vasya. After the release of “Capitalism 00”, the video for the song “Daniel-Blues” was shot. The song began to often turn on MTV , MuzTV and on different radio stations (Nashe Radio, Ultra, Baltika, Record, Radio Chanson, Radio Hit, Radio Modern). The group returned to active concert activities and managed to participate in various festivals in various cities of the country (“In Rock 2000” in Kaliningrad, the “Kodak” festival in Krasnodar with SPORT and Tequilajazzz groups, “Baltika Pivo Fest” in Moscow, “Street fest” in St. Petersburg, “Invasion” in Ramenskoye at the confluence of 50,000 people). In addition, the group actively tours the cities of Russia and the CIS.

In September 2002, the fourth album of the group “Bricks” was released under the name “ The Power of the Mind ”. According to the musicians themselves, “The Power of the Mind” is “a DIY product in the style of Lo-Fi Core ... ”.

“Basically, this is an album of a resurgent generation of musical revolutionaries again. It is aimed at dissatisfied with the current situation of people of all ages. In this album - everything that we have in humanitarian terms today. "

The album was accepted by both fans and the media positively. In the fall of 2002, a video clip for the song “Schoolchildren” was filmed in an ordinary Petersburg school. The second single from the album was the song "Jedi", which reached the top of many radio charts. On November 7, 2004, at a communist demonstration in the city of St. Petersburg, under the direction of Vasi Vasin, a video was shot for this song.

Let's rock!

After the release of “The Power of the Mind”, the team leader Vasi Vasin inquired about his creative plans for the future.

“I want to make a record like Guns N 'Roses „ Use Your Illusion II “and grow a hyer. For a long time we wanted to record a pure rock record, break the stereotype that Bricks is a rap, because, even reading “under a minus”, taking hip-hop as a form, we were always a rock band. ”

March 14, 2004 the album “ Let's Rock! ". At the same time, a new guitarist appeared in the group - Ivan Lyudevig.

The music on the album returns to the golden days of grunge . The album turned out to be lyrical and personal, as far as, of course, lyric and personal thrash can be. There is much less politics in this album, however, such songs as “Nobody Never Anybody Anything” appeared anyway, with a pronounced protest: “You are one against all!” And “Working class of the world”.

Here is how Danil described the creation - the vocalist and bass guitarist of the group:

“Our new album was recorded quickly and smoothly. This product reflects the feelings of adults who are trying to understand - and why, in fact, all this is necessary? As you move from song to song, you realize that we are full of the energy of the game, but are tired of proving anything to anyone. So we just play this game called "Bricks" - this is one of the best role-playing games and action games on Mother Earth. "

Even before the release of “Let's rock!” On “Our Radio”, they began to actively play the song “Ira”, which lasted very long in the charts “Chart of the Dozen”.

In the spring of 2004, the regular clip “Brick” was shot for the song “Ira”. At the same time, the SPAM ceremony was held, where the Bricks won the Best Group nomination.

Royal Album

December 24, 2005 comes the " Royal Album ", surprised the audience with its lyrical sound. If earlier "Bricks" sang about "booze and aunts", then a good part of the songs on "Tsar" - about love. The music has become more funk , beautiful guitar solos. A clip for the song "King" appears.

Vasya defined the genre of the new album as follows:

“We read non-stressful lyrics with live un-sampled music, a lot of songs about love and other nonsense.”

7

In October 2006, the album " 7 " was released, recorded in record time (2-3 months). Songs Vasya and Danila recorded "remotely", sending materials to each other via the Internet. The album as a whole continues the lyrical theme from last year's “The Tsar Album ”.

In March 2007, guitarist Ivan left the band.

Stones

In the fall of 2008, Bricks released a new, eighth album entitled Stones , which was presented on October 11 at the Tochka Club. The disc contains 14 songs recorded in the summer of 2008 at the Dobrolet studio by Andrey Alyakrinsky.
