Biography
Max Beer was born in Austria-Hungary in Galicia , in the city of Tarnobrzeg , which later became the capital of the Soviet republic of the same name. His father served in the Austrian army, fought with France and Italy. The stories about these events awakened a love of history, politics, geography and travel in young Max Beer. He studied Latin , Polish , French and German , logic, ethics and medieval philosophy.
In 1889 he moved to Germany, where, after several years of studying economics, politics, philosophy and socialist teachings, in 1892 he became editor of a socialist newspaper ( German: Magdeburger Volksstimme ). Many times the authorities were brought to trial, as he incited class discord in his articles, insulting the German army and power. For ten months in prison, he begins to master English, reads German, French and Russian books, writes several works.
After leaving prison, in June 1894 , not wanting to become a police spy, he moved to England. A year working at a school in London . He is elected a member of the German delegation to the International Congress in 1896. In December 1897 he went to Paris , and in the fall of 1897 Karl Kautsky invited him to Berlin to be one of the editors of Neue Zeit . At the same time, Max Beer receives an offer from the New York Abendblatt, for which he interviewed Emil Zoll in the Dreyfus case , to come to New York . To which he agrees, working there in 1898 - 1902 , until the quarrels exhaust his patience.
When Eduard Bernstein returned from England to Germany, Max Beer became an English correspondent for Vorwärts in 1902-1912 . In 1915 , deported from England.
In 1919 - 1921 edited “Die Glocke”, funded by Parvus , who fired Max Beer for trying to turn the newspaper to the left .
Max Beer wrote books on the history of the labor movement, in 1927-1929 , at the invitation of David Ryazanov , he worked at the IMEL funds in Moscow.
In 1929 - 1933 He lived in Frankfurt , worked at the Institute for Social Research ( German Institut für Sozialforschung ) and was an active member of the KKE . After the Nazis came to power, Beer returned to England.
