Story
Six months passed after the events of the first film . The rebels will learn the terrible news: cars are digging the earth to get to Zion - the only city of people. Commander Locke orders all ships to return to the city to prepare for defense. However, Morpheus , the captain of the Nebuchadnezzar ship, does not obey the order, believing that the Oracle will contact Neo soon to tell the rest of the prophecy.
But Nebuchadnezzar needs recharging, and Morpheus is forced to return to Zion, leaving another ship in contact with Pythia. The captain of this ship receives a message from Pythia, but when leaving the Matrix, one of the crew members, Bane, is attacked by Agent Smith and turns him into one of his replicants. Thus, Smith in the image of Bane gets into the real world.
Neo has nightmares about the death of Trinity , which he is very afraid of losing. Morpheus personally warns the people of Zion about the imminent danger of a car attack. Neo receives a message from the Oracle, and Morpheus immediately leaves Zion without the permission of Commander Lock. Neo enters the Matrix to meet the Oracle. He meets Seraph , the guardian of the Oracle, with whom he has to fight to prove his chosenness.
Seraph is convinced that Neo is the chosen one, and through the white corridor with many doors (a loophole in the program) leads him to where the Oracle is. She confirms that she, like much in the Matrix, is a program, but does not want to be erased, and therefore counteracts the Matrix. Neo finds out that he needs to get into the Main Computer to end the war. To do this, they need a Key Master , who was captivated by one dangerous and very old program - Merovingen .
The oracle leaves for the white corridor, as Seraph reports the impending danger, and Neo remains alone. He must leave this place in a different way, but at that moment Smith appears. Neo used to think that he destroyed it, but Smith explains that Neo only changed his program, giving him the possibility of self-copying, and that now he is a βfallen agentβ and a free program in the Matrix. Smith then attempts to turn Neo into his replicant, but the latter manages to prevent this. The battle begins with a huge number of Smith replicants. Realizing the pointlessness of the fight, Neo flies away.
Neo, Morpheus and Trinity come to Merovingen, who refuses to give them the Key Masters. However, his wife Persephone , insulted by one of her husband's infidelities, helps them in exchange for a kiss by Neo. She kills one of the guards (old and very dangerous programs known among people as vampires), and sends the other to inform Merovingen about the abduction.
In the dungeon, they release the Key Masters, and when they return upstairs, they are already waiting for Merovingen with ten guards. Morpheus, Trinity and the Master of Keys run away, and Neo remains to fight the people of Merovingen. With the help of knives, he effectively deals with them, but because of the strange doors leading to different spaces, he finds himself 500 miles from the city.
At this time, Trinity and Morpheus, leading the Key Masters, fight the Twins , who have the ability to turn into ghosts. Morpheus, Trinity and the Master, fleeing the Twins, run into the parking lot. One of the Gemini pinches the door with the hand that Morpheus holds while the second Gemini passes through the door. Trinity shoots him, but bullets fly through the enemy. The twin attacks her and easily wins, injuring her arm.
Then he takes hostage to Trinity. Grabbing it and putting a knife to Trinity's throat, he makes Morpheus skip the second Gemini too. Then, continuing to threaten to kill the hostage, he demands that Morpheus lay down his arms, but he accurately shoots the twin in the head, forcing the latter to turn into a ghost, so Trinity manages to escape from the hands of the enemy. Then Morpheus alone fights with both Gemini. The Key Master opens the car and they drive out into the city.
A big highway chase begins, during which the Agents appear. Morpheus kills the Twins by blowing them up in a car. Trinity, with the help of the Wizard, manages to steal a motorcycle from the autotrailer, and she tries to take the Wizard away on it. Morpheus takes the Keymaster to the roof of the truck, where he is forced to fight with the Agent. Agents push this truck with another, trying to kill both Morpheus and the Key Master. But at the time of the explosion, Neo saves them, who caught Morpheus and the Key Master on the fly.
The Key Master says that the Source is in a skyscraper on a secret floor. To get there, you need to turn off the electricity in 27 blocks of the city, destroying the power station and emergency generator, after which Neo will have only 314 seconds to get to the right door. To help Morpheus, two more captains arrive with a team who are ready to help him in the implementation of this crazy plan. Neo asks Trinity not to enter the Matrix, fearing the fulfillment of his visions.
During the operation, the crew of one of the ships dies, as hunters attack their ship. They did not turn off the electricity, which could lead to the inevitable death of Neo. Therefore, Trinity, contrary to his promise, enters the Matrix and turns off the electricity in the right blocks. Neo gets to the right door. The Key Master is mortally wounded by Smith, who made his way into the "white corridor" of program errors, but he manages to give Neo the key to the Source and show Morpheus the door through which he can leave the Matrix world.
Neo enters the Source and meets there the Architect, the creator of the Matrix. The latter informs Neo that the prophecy is a fiction, made only to save humanity from death. Cars destroyed Zion five times already. The task of the Chosen One was to download the update for the Matrix that was implanted into his brain after he became the Chosen One, then select 23 people (16 women and 7 men to continue the human race outside the Matrix, within the walls of Zion) and only then reboot the Matrix, starting a new cycle. Neo learns that Trinity is in a fight with an agent, from which she will not come out alive. The architect offers Neo a choice: either he resigns himself to the death of Trinity and reloads the Matrix, thereby saving humanity, or he saves Trinity, but dooms people to destruction. Neo chooses the latter.
At Nebuchadnezzar, Neo tells everything to Morpheus, who understands that everything he believed was a lie. At this time, hunters attack the ship. The team has to escape from the ship, watching its destruction. Suddenly, Neo begins to feel the hunters and destroys them in an incomprehensible way, after which he loses consciousness .
Morpheus and his crew find the Hammer ship, from the captain of which they learn that the attack on the army of vehicles planned by Commander Lok failed, and that the Hammer ship crew managed to find only one survivor on the battlefield. It turned out to be the very Bane that Smith had taken over.
The ending follows in the movie " The Matrix: Revolution ."

Filming
Filming Process
- The film was shot from March 26, 2001 to August 21, 2002, for the most part in the Fox Studios Australia pavilions in Sydney at the same time as the βRevolutionβ sequel, but some scenes were shot in Redfern, Australia and California (both in Auckland and non-functioning airfield of the US Air Force in the city of Alamida ).
- After filming, 97% of the scenery was recycled: much of the wood was sent to Mexico City to build cheap housing.
- The film was listed in the βGuinness Book of Recordsβ as βthe most circulated filmβ, since it was released for rent in the amount of 8517 copies.
- Martial arts training began in November 2000 and lasted 8 months.
- Under the terms of the contract, the Wachowski brothers were not supposed to give any interviews to the media for the duration of the two sequels of The Matrix.
- During the production of the picture, actress Kerry-Anne Moss broke her leg, Laurence Fishborn - her arm, and Hugo Weaving's cervical vertebra was damaged.
- Neo's battle scene, with multiple copies of Agent Smith, was filmed for 27 days. Both living people and computer images participated in it.
- General Motors donated 300 cars for use in the filming of the picture, and by the end all 300 were broken.
- During filming in Australia, by agreement with the local authorities, all traffic in Sydney was blocked for 4 hours. This was done to ensure safety when filming a scene with a helicopter flying over the city at extremely low altitude. Not only traffic was blocked on the streets, but people were also evacuated from some skyscrapers.
- βMatrix: Rebootβ, βMatrix: Revolutionβ and the computer game β Enter the Matrix β were created immediately between March 2001 and August 21, 2002.
Finance
- The cost of special effects amounted to $ 100 million.
- Of the $ 100 million, 40 million was spent on the shooting of the 17-minute battle scene with the retinue of Merovingen and the Gemini chase, including the construction of a 1.4-mile three-lane highway for the chase scene. The chase was shot for three months.
- For participating in two sequels of the Matrix, Keanu Reeves under the contract receives $ 30 million, or 15% of the fees of both series.
- The fee of the Wachowski brothers - directors and screenwriters of the picture - $ 10 million and an unnamed share of the rental of two films.
Actors
- Captions indicating the creators of the picture and the actors make up the 1943 name.
- The appearance and image of the Architect, whose role was played by Helmut Bakaitis, are similar to the "Creator of the Internet" - Vinton Cerf . Both also created a Virtual Network.
- Gloria Foster, who played the role of Pythia, died of diabetes on September 29, 2001. By this time, almost all the scenes with her participation for βMatrix 2β were shot, however, for βMatrix 3β the material was not shot, so Mary Alice replaced her.
- The role of Zee, the wife of cameraman Link, was supposed to be performed by singer Aliya , but she died in a plane crash on August 25, 2001 . The role eventually went to actress None Gay , the daughter of singer Marvin Gay.
Impressions
- In Russia, the film was released on May 22, 2003 at once in 157 cinemas.
- The film officially officially premiered in Russia on May 22, 2003, but the 21st film was shown for free at the presentation in Moscow and St. Petersburg of the new server operating system, Microsoft Windows Server 2003 .
Soundtrack
Don Davis , the composer of The Matrix, also participated in recording music and in Reloading. To create music for the main action scenes, such as "Big Fights", he collaborated with the London music band Juno Reactor . To record music, composers often used the work of Juno Reactor. The motives from the Matrix were also used, which went over to the Revolution. Like its predecessor, the film uses a lot of music tracks from famous artists. Some of the musicians already presented their songs in The Matrix (for example, Rob Zombie , Rage Against the Machine and Marilyn Manson ). Rob Dugan came back again and wrote an instrumental version of his Furious Angels, in addition, he also wrote the main musical theme of the film and the music played during the battle at Merovingen Castle.

- A film called MTV Movie Awards Reloaded was shown at the MTV Movie Awards 2003 , starring Justin Timberlake , Sean William Scott and Will Ferrell . In the creation of the film fragments of "Restart" were used. There, in a comic form, Timberlake, Scott and Ferrell played the Big Brawl.
- A parody of a maniac from the movie "Scream" in the movie "Scary Movie" evades plates like Neo does from bullets.
- Pythia, Morpheus and the Architect are also parodied in " Very Scary Movie 3 ".
- GORA also parodies "Reloaded", along with other science fiction films, such as Star Wars and The Fifth Element.
Hacking a Computer
There is an episode in the film in which Trinity breaks into a power computer. Usually, when it comes to hackers and viruses, filmmakers prefer to put on the computer screen spectacularly looking, but not having anything to do with the reality of the "cartoon". The Matrix: Reboot acted differently: Trinity really hacked into a computer. This is perhaps the first time in Hollywood history when a computer hack has been shown so reliably and in detail.
- The first thing Trinity launches is an Nmap port scanner. This is a real-life program used to search for insecure ports that can be used to penetrate the system.
- Nmap scans the IP address 10.2.2.2 and finds the open port 22. This port is used by SSH .
- Next, Trinity launches an exploit called sshnuke, which, as follows from an inscription on the console, tries to exploit the SSH CRC32 vulnerability. This is a real SSH vulnerability that was discovered in early 2001. However, it should be noted that nothing is yet known about the existence of the sshnuke hacker program.
- However, the program does its job, and Trinity immediately changes the administrator password to Z1ON0101 [5] , with which it logs into the system.
- A console opens with system administrator rights. Using administrator rights, Trinity disables the emergency power distribution system.
