Biography
Came from a noble family of Protasovs of the Ryazan province. Received home education. He began his service at the age of 15 as a non-commissioned officer in the Life Guards Horse Regiment . At the age of 20, on March 14, 1801, he received the first officer rank - Cornet; three years later - the head captain .
In 1805 he participated in the battle of Austerlitz , in 1807 he fought at Heilsberg and Friedland . For courage, he received his first battle order - St. Vladimir , 4th art. with a bow. Since November 28, 1808 - Colonel.
Before the Patriotic War of 1812 he was appointed commander of the combined cuirassier regiment (formed from the spare squadrons of the Cavalier Guard , the Life Guards of the Horse, His Life-cuirassiers and Her Majesties regiments.) In the 1st separate infantry corps of P. H. Wittgenstein .
His regiment distinguished itself in the battles at Sokolitsy, Svolnov, Volyntsi, as well as in the battle of Polotsk , where the regiment squadrons overturned the French cavalrymen.
