Owners
The history of the estate begins in 1484 , when Chantilly becomes the property of the Montmorency family. The greatest contribution to the creation of the architectural ensemble of the estate was made by the connable Anne de Montmorency , whose equestrian statue towers in front of the palace.
Connetable and his heirs attracted the artistic color of France to Chantilly. So, it was for them the best French artist of the time, François Clouet , worked, and it was on their estate that the premiere of Moliere's first original play, “ Funny Simpers ”, took place.
In 1632, for the assistance to the rebellious Duke Gaston of Orleans, the grandson of the Konterable, Henry II de Montmorency , was put to death. The confiscated estate passed to his sister Charlotte and her husband - Prince de Conde . Their descendants continued to bear the title of the Duke of Montmorency and live in Chantilly until the suppression of the clan after the execution of the Duke of Engiennes in 1804 .

The extensive building of the stables was laid in 1719 by Prince Conde, who, according to the memoirs of his contemporaries, believed that in his next life he would become a horse. Nowadays, the Horse Museum , owned by the Aga Khan IV, is open in this building. At his own expense, an expensive restoration of the cabin with walls painted with images of frolic monkeys was carried out.
After the death of the last Prince Conde in 1830, the castle went to the Duke of Omalsky ; the latter bequeathed it to the French Institute along with a precious library and art gallery.
