Contribution
The main provisions of the cognitive grammar of R. Langaker are presented in a paper entitled The Basics of Cognitive Grammar , published in two volumes, and which became the starting point for the development of cognitive linguistics. From the point of view of cognitive grammar, existing languages consist exclusively of semantic, phonological and symbolic units (conditional combinations of phonological and semantic units). Langaker claims that the main reason for the appearance of grammatical structures is cognitive processes. In his theory, Langaker widely applies the principles of gestalt psychology and draws analogies between the linguistic structure and aspects of visual perception.
