Biography

She graduated from the philological faculty of Moscow State University (1956), in the same year she made her debut as a critic. She worked in the magazines " Soviet Warrior " (1956-1958) and " Questions of Literature " (1960-1966), in 1991-1993 she was one of the leaders of the magazine "Consent". She conducted regular columns in the journal Novy Mir , Literaturnaya Gazeta, and regularly published in other leading Soviet and Russian literary publications. Member of the Union of Writers of the USSR since 1973 .

The main works of Marchenko are connected with the work and biography of Mikhail Lermontov (the book “From the road for official needs”, 1984), Sergei Yesenin (the monograph “The Poetic World of Yesenin”, 1972 and 1989, the books “Sergey Yesenin: the Russian Soul”, 2005 and Yesenin . Way and Crossroads ", 2012) and Anna Akhmatova (book" Akhmatova. Life ", 2009).

Marchenko’s biography of Akhmatova was in 2009 among the applicants for the Big Book Prize. According to the author, “I dared to read not only AA verses as verses, but also the“ rubbish ”from which they grew. Of course, this is not the rubbish that should not be taken out of the hut. This is the daily routine that Prince Peter Vyazemsky called the "motley garbage of the hostel." <...> I had to scrape over the guts, looking at any “speck” ” [1] . However, according to critic Valery Shubinsky , “Marchenko’s book is not only vulgar: it is also stupidly written - the author constantly confuses the known, the alleged and the fictional” [2] .

The book "Yesenin. The path and the confusion ”, according to the doctor of philological sciences Yuri Pavlov , contains a large share of fiction:“ From the first pages of the book Marchenko creates myths designed for people gullible and far from literature ” [3] .
