Domnin came from Syria , from Laodicea or Larissa . Domnin was in a literary polemic with Proclus , at odds with him in interpreting the works of Plato . After the death of the teacher, he took up the post of scholar of the Platonov Academy , where he did not stay long; the proclamation concept of the interpretation of Plato was adopted at the Academy, Proclus was elected a scholarch, and Domnin left Athens and returned to Syria.

Under the name of Domnin, two small mathematical treatises of a school purpose have reached us - "A Guide to the Arithmetic Introduction" and "On How to Derive One Concept from Another." They set forth the classification of numbers (even and unclean, simple and compound, flat and solid, monad and decade) with the addition of the theory of proportions - arithmetic, geometric and harmonic. Domnin, in his exposition, follows standard patterns, such as the treatises of Nicomachus of Geraz and Theon of Smyrna ; however, its text is noticeably shorter. Whether Domnin had any mathematical work of his own, we do not know.

Jokes

One episode, more characteristic of the spiritual atmosphere of the Platonic Academy, leads Marin : “Sirian invited him [Proclus] and Domnin (the Syrian philosopher, later his successor) to make the choice they wanted from him: on Orphean verses or on the sayings of oracles ; but they did not agree, and Domnin chose Orpheus, and Proclus the oracle.
