Yuri Ivanovich Makarov ( September 7, 1934 , Kremenchug , Poltava region - June 2, 2002 , Nikolaev region ) - one of the organizers of the shipbuilding industry of the USSR , director of the Black Sea Shipbuilding Plant (1979-1993).

Biography
In 1958 he graduated from the Nikolaev Shipbuilding Institute , after which he began working at ChSZ .
In 1963 he became a master of sports of the USSR in sailing .
In 1979, he was elected to the post of Director General of ChSZ on the recommendation of the previous director - Anatoly Borisovich Gankevich , who retired.
Under the leadership of Yu. I. Makarov, more than 500 civilian, fishing, research vessels, and warships were built. Among them are the heavy aircraft-carrying cruisers Minsk (1978), Novorossiysk [1] (1982), Baku (1987), the Admiral of the Fleet of the Soviet Union Kuznetsov (1990), fishing trawlers of the Mayakovsky, Pulkovsky type Meridian ", research -" Academician Knipovich "," Academician Sergey Korolev ", the first warship of independent Ukraine -" Slavutich ".
December 3, 1992 was elected an academician of the Academy of Engineering Sciences of Ukraine.

Memory
- February 22, 2002 - by a decision of the City Council session, the square on the Alluvium was named in honor of Yu. I. Makarov, as the founder of this microdistrict. [3]
- By the decision of the Department of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Regional State Administration, a challenge cup for sailing was established in memory of Yu. I. Makarov.
- In Nikolaev the square is named after him. [four]
- The bulk carrier Yuri Makarov, built at the Damen Shipyards Ocean plant.
