Theophania, drawing death

XI century . The village, part of whose inhabitants are pagans , and some are already Christians . The relationship between the two parts of the community cannot be called calm. The headman of the village, pagan Gregory, in every way makes fun of the priest Father Agafangel, declares that the priest is not a man, demands from him to enter into close relationships with women. On the other hand, Agafangel is trying to denounce the pagan customs of the villagers.

In the summer, it is time for a pagan holiday to the glory of Perun , accompanied by games and sexual orgy. At this time, parishioners gather in the chapel. One of the residents of the village, Anna, refuses to take part in carnal pleasures, and the next day she is found dead in the forest. The girl has been raped, there are bite marks on her body. Villagers decide that the cause of the girl’s death is a werewolf . The village healer Feofania, on the one hand, successfully prepares the body for burial, hiding wounds (which makes the villagers suspicious of witchcraft), on the other hand, using rites to try to find out what happened at night. Gregory decides that the coming of a werewolf is connected with the fact that the priest has angered Perun, and prevents Anna from being buried according to the Christian rite.

The next victim of the killer is Lyudmila, a relative of Gregory. Gregory asks Theophania to prepare the body for burial, while not improving its appearance. However, Theophania does not listen to the headman's advice. As a result, Father Agafangel accuses the healer of witchcraft and demands reprisals against her. The son of Theophania Nestor finds a charm at the place of murder, which most likely belongs to the killer. The wise woman asks the elder for help, while showing him the amulet. The elder remains silent - then Theophania realizes that the elder is the murderer. For the sake of his skin, Gregory stands on the side of the priest and agrees that Theophania should be burned. The crowd sets fire to Theophany's hut. However, Nestor manages to help her mother get out through a secret hole.

Nestor shows Gregory a talisman who the headman is trying to take away from the boy. In pursuit of Nestor, Gregory comes to the forest, where he meets the living Theophania. From surprise, he falls into a wolf pit and dies, pierced by a stake.

Feofania and Nestor leave the village.
