Biography
Player Career
Ari Khan began his professional career as a player in Ajax , Amsterdam , making his debut on May 23, 1968 in a cup match against Twente , which ended in a draw 2: 2 [2] . As part of the club, Ari became the three-time champion of the Netherlands , the three-time winner of the European Cup , the owner of the intercontinental cup , and the two-time winner of the European Super Cup .
In 1975, Khan moved to the Belgian Anderlecht , the club in the late 70s showed great football. Ari as part of Anderlecht twice won the UEFA Cup Winners Cup (in 1976 and 1978 ), and two European Super Cups . In the 1976/77 season, they also reached the final of the Cup Cup, but lost to Hamburg . In addition, he won the Belgian Cup in 1976, and became the champion of Belgium in 1981.
After the championship with Anderlecht, Ari moved to the Belgian Standard from Liege . Two seasons during the stay of Ari in the "Standard", was the most successful in the history of the club. Standard won two championships in 1982 and 1983, a cup and two Belgian Super Cups. And in 1982, “Standard” reached the final of the Cup Cup, where he lost to “ Barcelona ”.
Returning to his native country in 1983, Ari ended his career by playing one season for PSV .
For the national team of the Netherlands, Ari played 35 matches and scored 6 goals. His most famous goal, scored from 37.5 meters into the goal of the Italian team , in the second group stage of the 1978 World Cup . His goal, scored in a match against Italy, helped to reach the finals of the World Cup, but in the final against Argentina , the Netherlands lost in extra time 1-3. Ari was also a participant in the 1974 World Cup , in which his team reached the final, but lost to Germany 1-2.
Coaching career
Two months after retiring, Ari became a coach at Antwerp , but was replaced by Paul van Himst in the middle of the 1985/86 season. Returning to the previously played Anderlecht, Ari received a club with excellent players: experienced Frank Verkoteren and Morten Olsen (who completed their careers), and Jack Minaron , Luka Peruzovich , Erwin Vandenberg , Alex Chernyatinsky , Enzo Shifo and Georges Grun . In 1986, Anderlecht won the Belgian championship by winning a two-game standoff against Brugge . In the same season, the club reached the semifinals of the Champions Cup, but lost to Bayern Munich. The next season, the team repeated the success of last season, defending the title of the strongest team in Belgium.
After Belgium, on July 1, 1987, Ari Khan became the head coach of the German Stuttgart . In 1989, Stuttgart reached its first UEFA Cup European Cup final , but in two match-offs, the team lost to Napoli 1-2 and 3-3, in which Diego Maradona was playing at that time. Ari left Stuttgart on March 26, 1990 to become the coach of another German club, Nuremberg , in which Ari worked for just one season.
Returning to Belgium in 1991, Ari became a coach of the Liege Standard, with whom he won the 1993 Belgian Cup, and left the team in the middle of the 1993/94 season. In the 1995/1996 season, Ari Khan was introduced as the head coach of the Greek club PAOK , where he stayed until October 1996. After that, he returned to the Netherlands to become the Feyenoord coach, in his first season the team finished second in the Dutch championship. In total, Ari worked at the club for two seasons.
10 years later, in 1997, Ari Khan returned to Anderlecht, where he spent only nine months before returning to PAOK, where he remained as a coach until December 1999.
Becoming a coach of the Omonia club from Cyprus , Ari spent only two matches as a club mentor, as he was offered to head the Austrian Austria from Vienna . After working for six months, Ari asked to terminate the contract with him, his request was fulfilled by the club in August 2001. In December 2002, Ari led the national team of China , which he coached for the spirit of the years. In 2004, China hosted the final stage of the Asian Cup , in which the Chinese team led by Ari Khan reached the final, in which they lost to Japan with a score of 3-1. In November 2004, Khan resigned as head coach.
In February 2006, Ari became the Iranian Persepolis coach, with whom he reached the final of the Hazfi Cup . He was fired at the beginning of the 2006/07 season, due to problems with club management. In August 2007, he was appointed head coach of the Cameroon national team , but worked for only six months from a two-year contact, arguing that the President of the Cameroon Football Federation intervened in the management of the team.
In December 2007, he showed interest in a free coaching vacancy in the Irish national team , but a little later, President of the Albanian Football Federation Armando Dick announced that Ari Khan would replace Croatian specialist Otto Baric as head coach of the Albanian national team . January 4, 2008 Ari Khan signed a two-year contract with the national team of Albania. Less than a year later, on April 15, 2009, Ari was fired from his post as head coach of the Albanian team [3] [4] . In June 2009, Ari headed the Chinese club Chongqing Lifan .
