With the Atalanta youth team, he achieved excellent results from 1990 to 1997, especially from November 1993 to June 1997, when he was interim head coach in the club’s first team. After the unsuccessful 1997/98 season in Serie A , when he headed Lecce and was fired in January 1998, Prandelli led Verona for two seasons, bringing the club to Serie A, where the next year helped the team take the ninth place. The next two years, Cesare was the head coach of Parma , the head of which, achieved national fame.
At the beginning of the 2004/05 season, he left the post of Roma coach for family reasons. In the 2005/06 season, he led the Fiorentina , replacing Dino Zoff as head coach. This season, Prandelli together with the team achieved great success, taking fourth place in the championship and ending up in the Champions League. As a result of the famous scandal, the Caliopolis Fiorentina and Juventus were deprived of their places in the Champions League . As a result, the Prandelli team, in contrast to Juventus, which was lowered to Serie B , began the 2006/07 season in Serie A with a liability of “-15” points. On December 11, 2006, Cesare Prandelli was named the best coach of the 2005/06 season.
Despite the start gap of all teams by 15 points, Prandelli was able to bring Fiorentina to sixth place in Serie A, qualifying in the UEFA Cup for the 2007/08 season. The team was able to reach the semifinals, where it was stopped by the Scottish Rangers . In the 2007/08 season, the violets were able to win the race for fourth place in Serie A against Milan , gaining the right to play in the Champions League. In the 2008/09 season, Fiorentina also finished fourth, ahead of Genoa .
After the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, he led the Italian team instead of Marcello Lippi . The contract was signed for 4 years [2] . On July 1, 2010, the presentation of Prandelli as a mentor of the Italian team [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] was held at the press center of the Roman Olympic Stadium . The Italians confidently won a ticket to Euro 2012 without having suffered a single defeat and only tied two matches. At the tournament, “Squadra Azzurra” left the group from second place, losing the first only to the current world and European champions to the Spaniards . In the quarterfinal, Italy defeated the English national team in the penalty shootout, and the Germans were defeated in the semifinal. In the final, the Italians lost to the Spanish national team with a crushing score of 0: 4.
Prandelli also led the national team at the World Cup in Brazil. In the first match of the group stage, the Italians defeated the England national team (2: 1), but then they lost 0-1 to the Costa Ricans and Uruguayans , as a result of which they took only 3rd place in the group and failed to break into the playoffs. After that, Prandelli resigned as head coach of the national team.
July 8, 2014 Prandelli headed the Turkish " Galatasaray ", signing a contract for two years [8] . On November 28, 2014, Prandelli was dismissed from his post as head coach of Galatasaray [9] . Instead, the Istanbul club was headed by Hamza Hamzaoglu [10] [11] . After that, Prandelli remained unemployed for almost two years, despite the fact that his name was constantly associated with various clubs.
October 1, 2016, Cesare returned to coaching, leading the unsuccessful start of the season, the Spanish “ Valencia ”. The contract is calculated until June 30, 2018 [12] [13] . However, Prandelli failed to improve the results of the “bats,” and after working in the club for only three months, the Italian resigned [14] .
On May 20, 2017, official information appeared that Prandelli became the head coach of Al Nasra [15] .
On December 7, 2018, Prandelli was appointed head coach of Genoa [16] .
