Bethesda is a community that does not have an official government body , and is located in Montgomery County, Maryland . It is a northwestern suburb of Washington . According to the 2000 census, the population was 55.2 thousand inhabitants. The city got its name from the church built here in the 20s of the XIX century.

Bethesda has a complex of medical research centers ( National Institutes of Health ), the central offices of professional medical associations (in particular, the American Gastroenterological Association [2] , the American College of Gastroenterologists [3] ), as well as the headquarters of Lockheed Martin Corporation ".
