The name was given by the Perekhval river, near which it is located. The etymology of the word is unclear. In addition, there is another river in the village, which also flows into the Don, but a little lower Perekhvaly - near the villages of Romanovo and Selishche .

Famous Natives
In 1897, a student of Maxim Gorky, writer V. D. Ryakhovsky, was born in the village. Today, a granite memorial sign is preserved: “Here stood the house in which the writer Vasily Dmitrievich Ryakhovsky was born and lived. 1897-1951. " On February 4, 1999, a literary and art museum was opened in Perekhvali secondary school.
