Biography
Born in 1971 in Rostov-on-Don.
He studied at the faculty of Rostov State University . In 1999 he graduated from the State Academy of Theater Arts in St. Petersburg ( 1998 ).
He worked as a director of the Don-TR State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company . For shooting the film “Clean Thursday”, the creative team of the film was fired by the leadership of Don-TR [4] . He worked in the St. Petersburg edition of the NTV channel . In 2001 he organized the studio "Cinema".
He lived and worked in Rostov-on-Don . As a director, he co-authored here with documentary filmmaker Pavel Kostomarov the documentaries I Love You (2010) and I Don't Love You (2012). Films were presented at several foreign film festivals ( France , Netherlands ). In 2011, Alexander Rastorguev presented his film “I Love You” in the competition program of the Rotterdam Festival.
In 2009, Alexander Rastorguev wrote a manifesto for a new movie specifically for OpenSpace.ru [5] .
In 2010, he signed the appeal of the Russian opposition " Putin must leave ."
Arrested on December 10, 2011 in Rostov-on-Don for participating in local rallies of protest against falsification of the results of elections to the State Duma [6] .
In 2012, together with NTV host Alexei Pivovarov and documentary Pavel Kostomarov, he created the Internet project “Term” . In December of the same year, he launched the large-scale documentary project “Reality” together with them [7] . Together with them and other co-authors: Antoine Kattin , Susanna Baranzhieva and Dmitry Kubasov, conducts a casting, looking for potential heroes of the project.
In March 2014, he signed a letter “We are with you!” By the Cinema Union in support of Ukraine [8] .
Murder
He was killed on July 30, 2018, along with two colleagues - Orkhan Jemal and Kirill Radchenko - in the Central African Republic . There, according to media reports, he made a film about the activities of the “ Wagner Group ” [9] .
He was buried at the Troekurovsky cemetery in Moscow, section 19.
In January 2019, an investigation was published in Novaya Gazeta according to which the local driver of Russian journalists, Bjenvenu Duvokama, was connected with the former officer of the gendarmerie of the Central African Republic, Emmanuel Kotofio, who, in turn, was connected with the Russian citizen Alexander, who was in the Central African Republic at that time. Cell, related to the "Wagner group" [10] .
On January 11, 2019, an official representative of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation issued a statement saying that the death of Alexander Rastorguev and his fellow journalists occurred due to the incorrect organization of the trip by the Center for Investigation Management (SDG). In addition, the TFR believes that the publication of the SDG Internet project on the death of Russian journalists “aims to justify their own miscalculations in the preparation of a dangerous trip”, in connection with which new versions are put forward and attempts are made to accuse those not involved in the tragedy [11] .
The Moskovsky Komsomolets newspaper published a message from the Russian embassy in the Central African Republic stating that the Bienvenu Duvokam driver answered questions from the Russian diplomat in a confused and slurred manner. However, the driver’s testimony, without reservation, was cited in the official report of the Investigative Committee of Russia on the murder investigation [12] .
