Biography

Wiley started skating at the age of three in his native Dallas. When he was 11, his family moved to Denver , Colorado where Paul began to learn from the famous coach Carlo Fassi . When Fassi moved to Colorado Springs, Wiley followed him.

In 1979, Uyali won the US Championship among children (Novis level), and in 1981 the junior championships of the USA and the world .

At the same time, Wiley competed in pair skating with partner Don Graham. They were eighth in the U.S. Junior Championships in 1980, eighths in the U.S. Adult Championships in 1981, but broke up due to lack of funding.

Wiley was second in the U.S. Championships in 1988, 1990, and 1992. In 1992, he won a silver medal for the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville , France . This medal is the main surprise of that Olympics. The fact is that Wiley never, at the world level, rose above ninth place, and at the US Championship just before the Olympics he performed so poorly that there were doubts about his entry into the national team. The United States Speed Skating Federation even expelled him from the 1992 World Cup in favor of Mark Mitchell .

After the 1992 Olympics, Wiley quit amateur sports. He won the 1992 US Professional Open and the 1993 Professional World Championship. Also, from 1992 to 1998, he toured with a Stars on Ice tour.

After graduating from Harvard, he left to work in a corporate business. For some time he worked at The Walt Disney Company .

Wiley works as a sports commentator on the ESPN cable channel.

Since August 14, 1999 he is married to Kate Presbri. The couple has three children: Hannah (born 09.12.2003), Emma (born July 2006) and Caleb Jotham (born 05.03.2008) [1] . The family currently resides in Charlotte , North Carolina .

January 25, 2008 was inducted into the US Figure Skating Hall of Fame.
