Pančevo is a city in Serbia , an autonomous province of Vojvodina , the center of the homonymous community and the South Banat region . In the city itself, there are 76,203 inhabitants, in the Pancevo community - 123,404. Together with the suburb of Starchevo, the city of Pancevo, according to the last census of 2011, numbered 83,676 inhabitants. The city stands at the confluence of the Tamish River into the Danube , the distance to Belgrade is 14 kilometers.

History
The oldest name of the settlement, located on the site of the modern Pancheva, at the confluence of Tamish in the Danube , was Panuka. During the frequent changes of the hosts (Romans, Celts, Huns, Avars, Slavs, Hungarians, Tatars, Turks, Germans) the name of this strategically important place was often changed. The city was called Panutsea or Panucha in the X century, Bansif in the XII century, in the XV century Pancel and Pensei, in the XVII century Paichova or Panziova and Banchova, in the beginning of the XVIII century Chomba. It was first mentioned as a trading city in 1153, when, among other peoples, the Greeks lived there. In the XV century, the city was occupied by the Turks and held under his rule until 1716. Later he came under the rule of Austria-Hungary. In 1918, becoming part of Yugoslavia, received the modern name - Pancevo. In 1999, the city was repeatedly bombed by NATO.
Industry
After World War I, the industry of Pancheva experienced its second youth, one of the industrial giants of the former Yugoslavia emerged. There are many factories in the city, which employ tens of thousands of people not only from Panchev, but almost all of the South Banat. The city has a developed petrochemical, engineering, footwear industry. Developed tourism.
