Maldra

Galicia in the 5th century

Maldras ( lat. Maldras ) - King of the Svets in Galicia (now western Spain and northern Portugal ), reigned in 456 - 460 years.

In 456 , according to Idatsia , "the Swedes put Maldru as their king . " This phrase suggests that the common people also participated in making this decision. This Maldra, the son of Massilia, according to, Idatsiyu was not a relative of Rehiar . Not all warriors were ready to accept him as a leader, and in the next year, 457, the people divided. Part of him continued to be considered king Maldru, and the other part "called" King Framtana .

The relationship between the two Svets kings is unknown. Whether they were in enmity or they led peaceful coexistence. One way or another, in 457, both of these groups acted independently of each other, since Maldra and his son, as reported by Idacii, raided Lusitania that year and captured Lisbon , but Framtan did not take part in this. Idacius reports that the Svala Maldras, through cunning, entered Lisbon, convincing the townspeople that they had come in peace, and when they trustingly opened the gates to them, they plundered the city. When Framtan died a few months later, both groups did not unite. Maldra and his men continued to plunder western Lusitania, and former supporters of Framtan in Galicia now commanded Rehimund . Idazy does not report that they have approved Rehimund as king.

This strange state of affairs continued until Maldra, who himself killed his brother (of whom we know nothing more), was strangled by unknown murderers, for unknown reasons in February 460 .
