Story

The film tells about a society in which reading books is prohibited by law. People who keep books are arrested, and the books are burned by the so-called “Firemen”. The main character, Guy Montag , works as Firefighter, but does not want to put up with the existing ideology. 451 degrees Fahrenheit (this is about 233 ° C) is indicated as "the temperature at which the paper ignites and burns ."

The plot of the film is different from the novel. For example, Clarissa survives the film and at the end leaves the city with Montag. Faber's role is significantly reduced in the film: he appears only briefly in one scene like an old man sleeping on a park bench. Due to the fact that the film was shot in 1966, many of the elements of life described in the book are not present in the film.

Perception

Film press ambiguously reacted to the film after its release. Martin Scorsese called him undervalued, clearly influencing his own work. The author of the novel, Ray Bradbury, was pleased with the adaptation, but considered it a key mistake to approve the double role of Julie Christie [2] .
