The series begins in Okinawa , Japan , where Saya lives with his adoptive father, George Miyagusuku, and two other adopted children of this family, the brothers Kai and Rick. Sae needs a blood transfusion from time to time , all the wounds she received heal much more quickly than other people, moreover, she only remembers the last year of her life from the moment she started living in a new family. Otherwise, Sai's life is no different from the lives of other sixteen-year-old girls. She is studying at the Koza school ( Jap. コ ザ 商業 高校 Koza sho: gyo: ko: ko :) ) , shows success in the sports section, and is known among friends for her unusually large appetite. From time to time she remembers scraps of events of the past, which at first does not recognize as her own.
The first serious event that triggered the restoration of Sai’s memory was her meeting with a monster and an unknown man in the school building in the 1 series. The blood of a stranger, poured through her mouth, made Sai recall the knowledge of what she should do, as well as recall the skills of handling the sword.
Critical perception
From the point of view of the reviewer ANN, the heroine’s amnesia looks like a cheap trick and looking at the difference between how sweet Saya was when she lost her memory and how furious and ruthless she was before, one cannot but agree with one of the heroine’s opponents. just an ordinary girl [3] . As the reviewer of the site dvdtalk.com notes, Saya carries two personalities. One of them wants only a return to normal life. Another wants to fight until complete destruction of the bats [4] . And from the point of view of another reviewer of the same site, the struggle of Sai with its humanity is the most interesting part of Blood + [5] .
From the point of view of the magazine AniMag , Saya from Blood +, did not save anything from her prototype from Blood: The Last Vampire . If in the original source she was a little emotional, universal soldier, now she is just a frightened girl who does not understand who she is and is afraid to find out. Only in rare, critical situations does she deviate from this image and with an icy voice says “Give me the Sword!”. Most of all, she fears to remember her past, because when her memory wakes up, the naive schoolgirl will disappear forever, becoming an ancient vampire [6] .
Past
Saya is one of the two “queens” of the Rookers, representatives of a special kind of living creatures supposedly living on Earth before the advent of humans. She was born on August 4, 1832, from a cocoon taken by Joel Goldschmidt from the abdomen of a mummy of an unknown creature. At the same time, her younger sister, later named Diva, was extracted from another cocoon. Subsequently, the twins were separated, and for the next 60 years, Saya lived and was raised among people in an estate called Zoo, located in Bordeaux in France. During this period, she particularly learned how to handle a katana , which would later become her main weapon in the fight against the Bats of Wings.
At the age of about 30, Saya meets Hadji, whom Joel presents to her in the hope of exploring her reproductive potential. At first they don’t get along very well, but soon there is attachment between them and they spend a lot of time together. It is their communication that clearly demonstrates to both that Saya is different from other people, Saya herself is the first to realize the fact of her exclusivity.
Decades later, Saya discovers a mysterious prisoner living in a tower in a remote corner of the Zoo. Saya hears her song, and gives the girl a name - Diva. She promises to release Diva and invites her to sing a song for everyone at the festival in honor of Joel's birthday. On the same day, Saya asks Hadji to get a special lily from a cliff to make a gift to Joel. Haji stumbles and falls from a great height. Trying to save his life and having an intuitive idea of the characteristics of his own blood, Saya pours drops of his blood Hadzi into his mouth, thereby turning him into his “chevalier”.
At this time, tragedy occurs in the mansion: Diva released to freedom kills Joel and all his guests, thereby destroying everything that was precious to Sae. From this moment begins the story of the bloody feud between the two "queens" and their followers. Like her sister Diva, Saya lives an active life for about three years, and then comes a period of sleep that lasts for about 30 years. Throughout the history of this hostility to the time of sleep of both “queens”, the war between the opposing sides subsided for a while, but did not stop until the very last moment of the final battle between Saya and Diva in the Metropolitan Opera building. Despite the fact that Saya lived for many years only for the sake of destroying Diva, hatred gives way to repentance and regret at the moment when Saya realizes that Diva's blood will not kill her. Thanks to Hadzi and Kai Sai, the conviction concluded earlier violates and decides to spare the children of Diva, recognizing that she also wants to live. Shortly after returning to Okinawa, another 30-year period of Sai's sleep begins, during which Kai and the daughters of Diva visit her in the family tomb of Miyagusuku. Hadji also visits her, leaving a rose tied with a blue ribbon as a sign.
1833–1883
During this period, Saya leads a serene lifestyle. Joel Goldschmidt plays the role of a loving father, at her disposal servants, the entire territory of the mansion and the inhabitants of the Zoo. It is not known whether she had any other teachers (except for the fencing teacher, whom she soon surpassed in skill). Her cherished dream is to leave the Zoo and go traveling with a sword in hand to see the world with Haji in the future. At this time, Saya does not quite understand who she is and how she differs from people. It refers to some features as a given, for example to the rapid healing of wounds. However, over time, she begins to realize that her differences from other people are much deeper. At first, Saya notices that the animals of the Zoo are afraid and avoid her. It seems to her that all living things, with the exception of Joel and Haji, are disgusted with her. After 20 years, Joel is aging, Haji from the boy becomes an adult man, and Saya herself remains the same. Then she realizes that time flows for her differently than for everyone else. From the conversation between Joel and Haji, Sai learns that in order to live, she needs blood.
Despite the obvious danger, Saya asks Haji to get a lily from a sheer cliff. She also, out of good intentions, releases Diva from imprisonment, which leads to tragedy.
1883-1972
After killing Joel and the fire in the mansion, Cya swears to avenge Diva for the death of loved ones and the destruction of the usual way of life. From this moment on, Saya, accompanied by Haji, begins her long journey through the world, chasing the Diva and her Chevalier. The destruction of the Diva and, ultimately, of the Bats of Wings, including itself, becomes the sole purpose of existence for Sai. Most of all, Saya is afraid that in reality a monster like Diva is hiding inside of her, and therefore she asks Haji to promise to kill her when she is finished with Diva.
Saya refuses to drink blood, allied with people in the fight against Diva. In addition, Saya refuses to drink the blood of Haji, even when she needs it to maintain strength. Refusal of blood reduces the rate of regeneration , the speed of movement, imposes restrictions on general physical abilities.
1972
During the Vietnam bombardment of Vietnam, members of the Red Shield artificially interrupt Sai's sleep, injecting Hajji's blood intravenously. Saya wakes up, not remembering himself from rage, and begins to kill everyone, making no distinction between bats, US Army soldiers and civilians. Saya cuts off the hand of Carl, one of Chevalier Diva, as well as the hand of Haji, who is trying to stop her. This usually repressed, hidden side of Sai, cruelty, blind rage - attracts Carl, who considers this the true nature of Sai, similar to his own. Later, Saya enters that state again after hearing Diva's song (Series 13). Temporarily falling into insanity, Saya loses control of himself, hurts Haji, David and kills several members of the special squad during the mission to seize the container with Diva. She wakes up only after hearing the voice of her brother Kai.
2004—2006
Saya lives in the family of George Miyagusuku, not remembering his past life. This is the second period of its existence among people. Saya lives like an ordinary person, freed for a while from the burden of the past, memories of the tragedies and the duties and responsibilities assigned to her. Sae likes a peaceful life, everyday worries and human joys. She admits to her friend Kaori Kinjo that she really does not like battles and fights. Despite the fact that this time she has to lose her father and re-fight the Wings, Saya does this for the future of her brothers and other people dear to her, in order to return to Okinawa one day and live as before.
2007
After a year's absence, Saya once again makes itself felt, appearing in the midst of the struggle of Lewis and Kai against the bats. For the year, it changes externally.
Now Saya does not want to unite with the Red Shield in the fight against Diva, deciding that this is a personal battle and she must finish the job without the help of others. Saya tries to break the bonds that connect her with people, so as not to endanger them, and so that concern about them does not prevent her from thinking soberly and fighting in full force.
During this period, Saya remembers the treaty that they concluded with Haji, and is fully aware that her own death will be the result of this struggle. Pulling away from people, Saya moves closer to Haji. Saya recognizes the need to drink his blood to maintain strength.
