History
At the base of the bridge from the central part of the city was the Church of Peter and Paul (1691), demolished in the 1930s, and until the 15th century - the Peter and Paul Monastery (12th century).
The bridge was built to replace the temporary crossing in 1961-1966 according to the innovative project of Evgeny Sergeyevich Ulanov, brother of the ballerina Galina Ulanova . By design - a reinforced concrete bridge of prefabricated parts mounted with synthetic glue and tied with ropes.
According to the tradition at that time, the delivery of the bridge was timed to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the October Revolution , so the bridge was called "October".
Current status
Over its half-century history, the bridge was repaired four times [2] , the last time in 2013–2014, with the replacement of expansion joints, asphalt concrete pavement, lighting poles, railings and other structural elements [3] [4] . During the winter of 2013–2014 , traffic on the bridge was open, but speed was limited to 40 km / h, a temporary barrier fence was installed along the axial line of the bridge; at the time of the repair itself, carried out in two stages, the bridge was allowed only for public transport and vehicles of operational services. On August 30, 2014, the repair was completed [5] .
