(1709) Ukraine ( Ukrainian. Ukraine ) - the main belt asteroid that was discovered on August 16, 1925 by the Soviet astronomer Gregory Shain in the Simeiz Observatory and, at the suggestion of the Institute of Theoretical Astronomy in Leningrad , was named after the Ukrainian SSR , now the Republic of Ukraine [1] .
