The administrative center is the village of Shayan (Chayan). The population is about 60 thousand people. The territory of the district is 7200 kmΒ².

History
Formed in 1928 under the name Chayanovsky district . In 1930 abolished. Restored in 1933. In 1963, abolished. Restored in 1964 under the name Algabassky District . In 1996, it was renamed to Baidibek district [3] in honor of Baidibek Karashauly .
Geography
The northern, northeastern parts of the territory are occupied by the spurs of the Karatau Mountains (absolute altitude 1,284 m) and elevated plains (absolute altitude 250-700 m). The climate is continental . The average January temperature is -5-7 Β° C, July 29 Β° C. The average annual amount of precipitation on the west is 170 mm, on the island (at the foot of the Karatau Mountains) - 340 mm. Often strong winds ( Aystandy-Karabaassky ) blow at a speed of 30β35 m / s. Economy
The main directions of agricultural production are the production of meat, milk, growing grains, leguminous crops. The deposits of polymetallic ores ( Bayzhansay deposit ), limestone, refractory clay and other building materials have been explored. Settlements are located in river valleys. The largest villages: Shayan , Akbastau , Shakpak . Shayan Astyk, Boraldai and others joint-stock companies were organized on the basis of former state and collective farms.
