Chiglintsev, Evgeny Alexandrovich

Born in a family of doctors.

He graduated from high school number 96 in Kazan (1973).

In 1973–78 He studied at the Department of History of the Faculty of History and Philology of Kazan University , where he graduated. As a student, he took an active part in the Komsomol , in subsequent years - party work at the faculty.

In 1978–81 He completed postgraduate studies at the Department of General History of KSU. In 1981, under the supervision of A. S. Schoffmann, he defended a dissertation for the degree of candidate of historical sciences on the topic “ Henri Wallon and his concept of ancient slavery ” (specialty 07.00.09. - historiography, source study and historical research methods) ^{[1 ]} .

Since 1981, teaching at KSU: assistant (1981–86), senior lecturer (1986–88), associate professor (since 1988) of the Department of World History (since 1991 - the Department of the History of the Ancient World and the Middle Ages). In 1990 he was awarded the academic title of Associate Professor. In 1982–86 - Deputy Dean of the Faculty of History of KSU for evening and correspondence departments. In 1996-2005 - Head of the Department of Continuing Education (IT) of KSU. In 2001-02. - Acting Head, since 2002 - Head of the Department of the History of the Ancient World and Middle Ages of KSU (in 2007 he was re-elected for the 2nd term), since 2013 - the Department of General History of the Institute of International Relations, History and Oriental Studies.

In 2009, at the Kazan State University of Culture and Arts, he defended his thesis for the degree of Doctor of Historical Sciences on the topic “Reception of Antiquity in the late XIX - early XXI centuries: theoretical and methodological foundations and cultural and historical practices” (specialty 24.00.01 - theory and cultural history). official opponents are Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor G. After the death of Professor V. D. Zhigunin in 2001, E. A. Chiglintsev led the scientific seminar “Antique Monday”, in the framework of which young anti-historian researchers are emerging from the first year to the defense of candidate and doctoral dissertations. Since 2005 - Dean of the Faculty of History of KSU (term of office expired in 2010). In 1982–86 and 2001–05. Member, since 2005 Chairman of the Academic Council of the Faculty of History of KSU. Since 2005, he has been leading the joint project of Kazan and Rutgers Universities “Building Democracy in a Multi-Ethnic Society” ^[3] .

• E. A. Chiglintsev is the author of the works on the historiography of ancient slavery. His main research findings are reflected in the fundamental monograph “Antique Slavery as a Historiographic Problem”, published in 2000 and resulting from more than 20 years of work by the author on the problems of domestic and foreign historiography of ancient slavery.
• Since the mid-1990s Evgeny Alexandrovich focused on the study of the reception of ancient heritage in Russian and European culture of modern and recent times. The works of E. A. Chiglintsev on this urgent interdisciplinary problem were published in the VAK scientific journals of the Russian Association of Antiquologists and the Russian Society of Intellectual History and laid the foundation for the creation of the corresponding scientific school on the basis of the Faculty of History of KSU.
• Under the leadership of Evgeny Alexandrovich, 5 candidates of historical sciences defended their dissertations. Since 2001, he was the head of seven grants of the Open Society Institute, in the framework of which various faculty activities were financed, including several scientific conferences, working meetings on educational and methodological issues, as well as the publication of monographs and textbooks.
• As an editor of a number of collections of scientific articles, a member of the editorial board of the Volga antiquity journal Antiquitas Aeterna, E. A. Chiglintsev has close contacts with anticologists of Moscow, Saratov, Omsk, Nizhny Novgorod and other Russian cities, as well as with colleagues from Kharkov (Ukraine), Central European (Budapest, Hungary), Giessen (Germany), Luven (Belgium) universities, Rutgers University (USA), Cappadocian Higher School (Turkey).
