Drevnosti RG v3 ill003 - Dmitry Pozharsky banner.png

The banner of Dmitry Pozharsky - is stored in the Armory of the Moscow Kremlin .

On each side has its own biblical scene with a description of it around the perimeter of the banner Slavonic script .

Description

Face

On the obverse [1] of Dmitry Pozharsky is a scene from the Old Testament (Fig. 1): after Moses died , Joshua became the leader of Israel . On the eve of the storming of the city of Jericho, he met Michael the Archangel with a sword in his hand ( Jos. 5: 13-15 ) (Fig. 2).

A similar scene is depicted on the banner of Ermak (1582). Small differences only in details.

  • There are innovations.
    • The sword of Jesus lies at the feet of the archangel, and an empty scabbard hangs to the side. On the banner of Ermak, Jesus is without arms at all.
    • Archangel Michael stands on a rolled-up rug and holds an empty scabbard in his left hand.
    • Jesus had a halo and cloak.
    • Appeared signatures of names of actors.
    • The figures looking at each other are turned the other way. On the banner of Ermak, Michael the Archangel was left-handed, now he is right-handed. On the banner of Ermak, Jesus bowed his right knee, now his left. Jericho as he was and remained left on the banner. But if on the banner of Ermak he was behind Jesus, now he is behind the back of the archangel.
    • Yermak’s personal attitude towards the archangel Michael is written on the banner of Yermak, while a description of the scene is given on the banner of Dmitry Pozharsky.
  • Gone are the background images of the sea and clouds.

Downside

On the back of the cloth depicts Jesus Christ from the New Testament . The inscription on the perimeter is not so epic. These are passionate penitential verses filled with confession of one’s own sins and a prayer to the merciful God, the savior of repentant sinners.

“From above, gazing at the miserable, accepting, visit us, embittered sins, Vladyka All-mercy, grant to the prayers of the Virgin Mary our great mercy. Every nasty, All-Merciful Savior, a by-do delight, and in despair the moat fell, but a wall from the heart, and a cry to you, a word: hurry, generous, try to help us, like a mercy. ”

Notes

  1. ↑ The front side of the cloth is turned to the right of the pole in relation to the observer. On this side focused priority images and labels.
