Valmiki

Val (b) miki ( Skt. वाल्मीकि , vālmīki IAST - “[came out] anthill”, given name at birth - Ratnakara ) - singer and poet, author (or handler) of the greatest epic of ancient India “ Ramayana ”, standing in one row with the Mahabharata (authored by the sage Vyasa ), he lived in the 5th-4th centuries. The Valmiki met the exiled Sita in the forest and gave her refuge in his ashram. When Sita gave birth to her sons, the Valmiki taught them the Ramayana .

Valmiki is also considered the compiler of Yoga Vasishtha , one of the four Itihasas , the outstanding philosophical text of Advaita Vedanta and Hinduism in general.

Having lived to a very old age, he went into the mountains and, admiring the sunset, froze in one perfect knowledge. His body was eaten by ants, once again confirming the semantics of his name.

In honor of Valmiki named a crater on Mercury .
