Timeslot (TDMA)

Timeslot ( English timeslot - time cell) - in communication systems where time division multiple access ( TDMA ) or time multiplexing (multiplexing) ( TDM ) is used - the channel separation unit. Means one spot in each superframe during time division multiplexing . As a rule, in digital communication technology, a timeslot is a channel interval occupied by a single 64 kbit / s channel. Due to the presence of different transmission rates, the length of one timeslot can vary greatly, only the amount of information that fits in it remains unchanged.

In mobile communications, the situation is the opposite - the timeslot is a given unit of time (part) from a repeating packet or frame. For example, in GSM, the timeslot is 0.577 ms and 8 timeslots form a frame. There are timeslots not only in systems using TDMA , but also in other systems, for example, in D-AMPS (in addition to FDMA division into timeslots), DECT , CDMA2000 (where, in addition to coded channel separation, time division is also used in timeslots during data transfer). For example, in CDMA2000 1X EV-DO - timeslot is 1,667 ms - 16 timeslots form a packet.
