The construction of the building, designed by architect Christian Haller, began in 1723 . The consecration of the church took place on July 2, 1730 .
The height of the church tower is 58 meters.
The cathedral has an organ ; in 1877, the famous Swedish musician and composer Klas Wilhelm Rendal became the organist of the Karlstad Cathedral.
