At the beginning of the book he is 13 years old, he serves as a page under the king of France, and the recently widowed lady of a noble family and royal blood draws attention to him. The lady decided to raise from him the ideal knight and ideal lover. Relations between Santra and Ladies are a secret for everyone and will remain so until the finale (the name of the Lady is the secret of the author).
When Santra turns 21, the Lady gives him a precious bracelet , pledge and a symbol of his knightly deed. He must wear the bracelet for a year, until some knight accepts his call and releases him from the vow. Challenge accepted in Aragon . The two-day match ends in a victory for Santra. He triumphantly returns to Paris and is appointed royal chambellan . The lady gives him the idea to take part in the crusade to Prussia, where he is opposed by hordes from Judea , Persia , Syria , Egypt , Mesopotamia and Media . There he kills the Great Turk and captures the enemy banner.
Santre has matured, and he is eager to show independence. Secretly from the Lady, he is preparing a surprise for her: a new swearing vow. Surprise turns out to be unpleasant: The lady is angry and upset by his willfulness. Santre goes to the court of the emperor, where he hopes to find the enemy; The lady in anger and sorrow retires to her estates, in the vicinity of which there is a certain monastery , where the abbot is a young man. Their acquaintance turns into love.
Santre is returning from Germany . The lady greets him with undisguised displeasure, the abbot scoffs at chivalry and knightly vows. Santra should take revenge: he calls for dinner to Damu and her lover, skillfully flatter the abbot, having led a conversation on how magnificent he will be in full knightly vestments, immediately there is also prepared in advance, just by the standards of the abbot, armor, and the conceited monk is forced to enter in a duel. The santra is limited to piercing his tongue and cheeks with a dagger, and the blue belt, the emblem of fidelity, is torn from the Lady.
A few months later, in the presence of the Lady and at the full assembly of the court, Santra, without giving any names, tells her story and asks the court ladies for court and sentence. The verdict stigmatizes infidelity. In front of everyone's eyes, Santra returns Dame to her belt.
