Professional career
He made his debut in May 1997 . After 7 consecutive battles won, he came out in June 1998 against Colin Wilson, and knocked him out in the 5th round of the 12th round bout, in the battle for the interim champion of Oceania. The 8th fight in Mian's career was already 12th round. In November 1999 , Mien met with a Ugandan boxer, Peter Ohello . Already in the first round, Ohello knocked down Mian. This was the first time in his career. But the Aussie recovered, and in the 3rd round he knocked out Ohello. In June 2001, Mien lost by knockout in the 1st round to Danny Williams .
In September 2004, Kali Mien lost the controversial split decision to the WBO world heavyweight champion, Lamon Brewster .

In November 2004, a qualifying bout took place for all three major heavyweight titles between Australian Kali Mien and American Hasim Rahman . At the end of the 4th round, Rahman pressed the Australian into a corner and started beating him. Mien barely kept, but the referee did not stop the bout. Immediately after the gong, the Australian barely reached his corner, and his coach stopped the fight.
2005 - 2008
In October 2007, Mien defeated Devarril Williamson by technical knockout in the 6th round. May 22, 2010 , in the eliminator WBA lost on points to Ruslan Chagaev . [1] Won 3 forward fights, and lost in March 2012 to American Travis Walker .
