French Car Championship

The Championship of France on the highway-ring racing in cars ( French Championnat de France de Supertourisme ) is a national touring car championship, which existed in 1976-2005. The series was based in France .

The championship was held by the French Autosport Association (FFSA): initially held according to the requirements of Group 2, then (since 1982) Group A , since 1994 - according to the requirements of the FIA Supertourism group.

FFSA Silhouettes

In 2001 French Supertourism, in spite of the name, switched to the silhouette prototypes of the national category - rear-wheel drive cars had a tubular-frame chassis and mid-air naturally aspirated engines (6 cylinders and 3000 cm³ of working volume) (silhouettes were used - Peugeot 406 and 407, Opel Astra Coupe, BMW M3 E46 , SEAT Cordoba and Toledo, Nissan Primera). These cars are also approved in the Belgian Procar series, as well as its successor to the Belgian Body Car Series, and also served as a prototype of the Renault Megan silhouettes for the Renault Megan Trophy series.

But the increase in costs led to the fact that in 2005. the championship spent its last season. In recent years, the Championship was held as part of the Super Series, which also included the French Gran Turismo Championship and the French Porsche Cup . Weekend Supertourism included 2 races (50-60km each).
